Birthday & starting

Postby charming » Mon Jan 04, 2010 5:57 pm

Every see the random kids that can not start the school year when they should because their birthday falls just short of when the school year starts. Yep, thats my girl, ugg, its going to be a total pain to deal with. And I am sure by that time she is going to be quite upset with the whole thing too.

I was born in November so I had to start a year late, but there were a bunch of other kids in the same situation. Hopefully your daughter will have some friends who had to start late too and then she won't feel like the only one this happened to.

If your child is mature and capable, you could possibly request that she be allowed to advance. There's pros and cons to this but there's always that option. Not all school districts look favorably on this but if you feel your child is ready, it may be worth a try.

I am not sure if this district will allow for it but I will check it out. I would prefer she is not the odd duck out, you know? Right now she seems like a pretty smart cookie but then again its hard to compare as this is a new state that I live in (and know few people her age to compare with).

That's what happened to me Betsy so there ended up being a good many of us that though "older" were still in the same grade so it wasn't a big deal.

I haven't run into this yet, but my mom started my brother a year late, and I thought that that was a great thing for him. He was born in September, so it gave him a nice added edge in school.

I was Born on the month of October, and like Betsy I am also start a late year. I suggest if you will bring your daughter in some beautiful place so that she might meet a new friends in her age. Alternatively, try to express that she should understand it. :)
