The ideal age is 2 y/o. There are no concrete methods that will guarantee your 2 year old will potty train when you are ready for him too, if he is not ready. Just always bear in mind that you just not push him, get mad, or yell if he isn’t doing it fast enough. Don't negotiate. Don't threaten. Don't get angry. As you place him on the potty, stay calm and firmly say, "Poopy goes in the potty." Keep an eye out for bowel movements and do the same thing: Set him on the potty and say, "Poopy goes in the potty." Make or Choose a song that you and your son will sing every time he will sit on the potty or buy a picture books he will really like and read them together when ever he sits on the potty. It's also wise to not put underwear on your child for several weeks after he's learned to use the potty; just put on his pants.
